Discussion & Documentation:

There are two Meier families that settled in the Volga German colony of Shcherbakovka on 15 June 1767. It is not known whether they are related to each other. On the 1767 census, both families are recorded as being from Laudenberg.

(1) Leonhard Meier, his wife Anna Katharina, and son Martin (age 5) are recorded on the 1767 census of Shcherbakovka in Household No. 20.

The widow of Leonhard Meier and her children are recorded on the 1798 census of Shcherbakovka in Household No. Sv23.

In 1790, Martin Meier, son of Leonhard Meier, moved from Shcherbakovka to Stephan.

The death of Georg Adam Meier, son of Leonhard Meier, in 1831 is recorded on the 1834 census of Franzosen in Household No. 55.

Eva Elisabeth Meier, widow of Georg Adam Meier, and her family are recorded on the 1850 census of Franzosen in Household No. 58.

Eva Elisabeth Meier, widow of Georg Adam Meier, and their son Mattias Meier and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Franzosen in Household No. 152 along with a note that they relocated to the daughter colony of Erlenbach in 1852.

Widow Eva Elisabeth Meier, her son Mattias Meier, and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Erlenbach in Household No. 58.

(2) Martin Meier, a farmer, and his wife Elisabeth are recorded on the 1767 census of Shcherbakovka in Household No. 26.

Both families immigrated first to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein), but Leonhard's family went earlier (in 1760).  Martin's family arrived in 1762.  Both families left at the same time (on 26 April 1763) for Russia.

The death of Johann Peter Meier, son of Leonard Meier, is recorded on 16 April 1760 in the parish register of Altona [while in route to Denmark].

The marriage of Leonard Meier from Hochhausen to Anna Margaretha Haneeson is recorded on 26 August 1760 in the parish register of Thorning [Denmark].

In Danish records, Leonhard is recorded as being from the German village of Hochhausen. Since theses Danish records are often more exact than those in Russia, a link has been made here to Hochhausen for these families.
