Niedent(h)al

Two Niedenthal brothers, sons of Johann Peter Niedenthal and Anna Maria Marquart [See Marquardt Family], immigrated from Eckartshausen, Büdingen, Hessen-Darmstadt and settled in the Volga German colony of Kutter. They both arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Christina under the command of Skipper Jacob Stappenberg.

(1) Johann[es] Ernst Niedenthal, a blacksmith (Schmied), was born 16 March 1741 in Eckartshausen. He married in Büdingen on 10 May 1766 to Anna Maria Ickes, daughter of the deceased Johannes Ickes from Altstadt. He and his wife settled in the Volga German colony of Kutter on 8 July 1767. Widow Anna Maria Niedenthal and her children moved to Sarepta arriving there on 31 July 1786. Records in Sarepta indicate that she had an additional son, Johannes, born 16 January 1775 in Kutter.

(2) Johann Heinrich Niedenthal, a blacksmith (Schmied), was born 19 January 1746 in Eckartshausen and was baptized there on 23 January 1746. He settled in Kutter on 16 August 1767.

Karl Becker's research reveals that two additional Niedenthals moved from Kutter to Sarepta, but it is not known to which of the above families they belong:

(1) Anna Margaretha Niedenthal received authorization to move from Kutter to Sarepta on 15 July 1783.

(2) Wilhelm Niedenthal received authorization to move from Kutter to Sarepta on 25 August 1787.
