Nikolaus Nungesser, a miller (Müller), and his wife Elisabeth settled in the Volga German colony of Sewald on 20 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 10.

In 1795, Johannes Nungesser moved from Sewald to Seelmann.

Johannes Nungesser is recorded on the 1798 census of Seelmann in Household No. Sm07. 

Johannes Nungesser is recorded on the 1811 census of Seelmann in Household No. 7 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Dehler in 1799.

Johannes Nungesser and his son are recorded on the 1811 census of Dehler in Household No. 20 along with a note that they had arrived in Dehler from Seelmann in 1799.

Johannes Nungesser is recorded on the 1834 census of Dehler in Household No. 14.

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Nungesser came from the German village of Großheim in the Mainz region.
