Karl Otto, a single hosier (Strumpfwirker), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 3 June 1766 aboard the galliot Adler under the command of Skipper Paul Adolph Drath.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 38.
In 1778, Karl Friedrich Otto and his family moved from Dinkel to Penza.
The 1767 census records that Karl Friedrich Otto came from the German village of Roßwein in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
