Discussion & Documentation

Johann Georg Pecheisen, a weaver (Weber), his wife Maria Margaretha, and children (Veronkia, age 16; Elisabeth, age 6; Johann Wilhelm, age 1¾) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 7 August 1766 aboard the ship named Nordstern (North Star) under the command of Skipper Detlev Behling.

Johann Georg Pecheisen, his wife Maria Dorothea, and daughters (Simonicka [sic], age 16; Maria Elisabeth, age 8) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that father Johann Georg Pecheisen died en route.

Efrosinia Bettheusen [sic] (age 16½) and her sister Maria Elisabeth Bettheusen [sic] (age 9) are recorded on the 1767 census of Urbach in Household No. 54 along with their stepfather Johann Georg Eichhorn.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Georg Pecheisen came from the German region of Sachsen (Saxony). The 1767 census does not record from where the Bettheusen sisters came.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
