Discussion & Documentation

Johann Martin Pracht, a sheepskin tanner, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 12 May 1766 aboard the galliot Anna Catharina with the skipper Daniel Geier at the helm.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 5 March 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 30.

Johann Pracht, also a sheepskin tanner, and his family also arrived on the Anna Catharina.  They, too, settled in Katharinenstadt on 5 March 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 76 where Johann is married to the widow of Nikolaus Werner who also arrived on the Anna Catharina.

Several branches of this family moved to the colony of Biberstein where they are recorded on the 1798 census. In 1794, Karl Ludwig Pracht moved from Biberstein to Näb.

Both the Kuhlberg list and the 1767 Census record these families as being from Grünberg.
