Discussion & Documentation

Peter Bracht [sic], a miner (Erzbergbauarbeiter), his wife Anna, and son Peter (age 2¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the 2-masted merchant ship named Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Adolph Scharpenberg.

Peter Bracht [sic] (age 26) , a miner (Erzbergbauarbeiter), and his [new] wife Johanna Maria (age 26) are recorded on the 1767 census of Keller in Household No. 2 along with the orphaned brothers Johannes Richelhof (age 18) and Bartolomeus Richelhof (age 8). They had arrived in Keller on 12 May 1767. [See Riegelhoff Family.]

Following the destruction of Keller in 1774, the family relocated to Neu-Kolonie.

Peter Pracht and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Neu-Kolonie in Household No. Nk30 along with a note that they are now in the colony of Volmer.

The death of Peter Pracht (age 64) of Neu-Kolonie is recorded on 6 January 1804 in the parish register of Preuss.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Peter Bracht [sic] came from the German region of Köln. The 1767 census records that Peter Bracht [sic] came from the German village of Bruchhausen in the Kurpfalz.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Pracht family among the Volga German colonies.
