Johann Valentin Rockel married Anna Barbara Berk. She had been bor 30 October 1727 in Lauterbach.

The baptisms of the children of Johann Valentin Rockel & Anna Barbara Berk are recorded in the parish register of Lauterbach: (1) Ulric, baptized 23 August 1757, died 9 May 1758; (2) Johann Ulrich, baptized 8 April 1761; and (3) Ulrich, baptized 5 May 1763.

Anna Barbara Rockel née Berk died 8 May 1763 in Lauterbach. Johann Valentin Rockel remarried on 8 February 1764 in Lauterbach to Susanna [some documents record her name as Julianna] Elisabeth Eurich, daughter of Conrad Eurich.

The baptisms of a child of Johann Valentin Rockel & Susanna Elisabeth Eurich are recorded in the parish register of Lauterbach: Johann Georg, baptized 26 January 1765.

Valentin Rockel, a farmer, his wife Susanna, and children (Katharina, age 18; Elisabeth, age 15; Johann, age 11; Ulrich, age 3; Georg, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the ship Der Junge Mattias under the command of Skipper David Wollert.

Valentin Rockel evidently died and his widow remarried to Ludwig LaVergne. [See LaVergne Family.]

Ludwig LaVergne, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Susanna, and [step-]son Johann Georg [Rockel] (age 3) and his family are recorded on the 1767 census of Moor in Household No. 27. They had settled in Moor on 18 June 1767.

Johann Georg Rockel left Moor in 1788 and settled in Kolb. Johann Georg Rockel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Kolb in Household No. Ko40.

Johannes Rockel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz027.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Valentin Rockel came from the German region of Riedesel.

The surname was spelled "Rogel" in subsequent records.
