Karl Ratter [sic], a single miller [Müller], arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Mercurius under the command of Skipper Christian Heinrich Abelßen.
Karl Röder, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife Elisabeth, widow of Friedrich Ost, settled in the Volga German colony of Urbach on 13 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 6.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Karl Ratter [sic] came from the German region of Sachsen (Saxony). The 1767 census records that Karl Röder came from the German village of Wittenberg in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
