Discussion & Documentation

Paul Rolandt, a farmer, his wife Anna, and daughters (Maria, age 4; Elisabeth, age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard a ship named Der Junge Heinrich (The Young Henry) under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann along with the child Johann Berth (age 13). A relationship between the Rolandt and Berth families is not recorded.

The widow Anna Rolandt is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that she died in route.

If the daughters were traveling with her and if they survived the journey, it is not known in which colony they settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Paul Rolandt came from the German region of Baden.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Rolandt family among the Volga German colonies.
