Discussion & Documentation:

There are two Rost families who arrived in Lübeck together in 1766 and travelled from Oranienbaum to Saratov together in 1767. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Georg Rost, a farmer, and his wife Sophia arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Georg Rost and his wife Sophia are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Georg Rost, a farmer, and his wife Sophia are recorded on a list of Beauregard recruits appended to the 1767 census in Household No. 46.

Georg Rost and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Luzern in Household No. Lz38. [The 1798 census erroneously records this surname as Grast/Grost.]

The death of Georg Rost in 1821 is recorded on the 1834 census of Luzern in Household No. 82.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Rost came from the German region of Bamberg. The 1767 census records that Georg Rost came from the German village of Sasserath [Sassanfahrt?].

(2) Paul Rost, a farmer, his wife Anna, and son Johann (age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Paulus Rost, his wife Anna, and son Johannes (age 1 [sic]) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

It is not known in which colony this Rost family settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Paul Rost came from the German region of Bamberg.
