Discussion & Documentation

Widow Maria Rutrof and her daughter Anna Margaretha (age 2) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 August 1766 aboard the galliot named St. Johannes (Saint John) under the command of Skipper Carstens Stahl.

Widow Maria Rutrof is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

It is not known in which colony she settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Maria Rutrof came from the German region of Darmstadt.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Rutrof family among the Volga German colonies.
