Sauer (Sewald)
Johannes Sauer, son of Hans Georg & Anna Margaretha Sauer, was born on 6 April 1742, and baptized on 8 April 1742 in the Lutheran Church in Hofheim, about 5 kilometers northeast of Worms. He married Anna Barbara (surname unknown).
Johann[es] Sauer, a farmer, and his wife Anna Barbara arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig Mercurius under the command of Skipper Christian Heinrich Abelßen.
Johannes & Anna Barbara Sauer settled in the Volga German colony of Sewald on 20 August 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 27.
In 1792, Johannes Sauer and his family moved from Sewald to Köhler where he and his son Nikolaus are recorded in Household No. Kl80 on the 1798 census.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann[es] Sauer came from the German region of Trier. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Hofheim in the Worms region.
