Discussion & Documentation

Nikolaus Schäfer, a farmer, and his family (including his 80-year-old mother, Magdalena) settled in the Volga German colony of Rohleder on 14 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 44.

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Schäfer came from the German village of Bitsch in France.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schäfer family among the Volga German colonies.
