Christian Schäfer, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and daughter Elisabeth (age 3-months) are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 19.
It is not known in which colony they settled.
The 1767 census records that Christian Schäfer came from the German village of Ziegenbach in the Hessen region. [Ziegenbach is in Bayern (Bavaria). Perhaps it is Ziegenberg which is in Hessen?]
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schäfer family among the Volga German colonies.
