Nikolaus Chaminé, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and son Peter (age 1½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Louis in Household No. 12. They had arrived in Louis on 14 June 1766.

In 1788, Anton Chaminé moved from Graf to Mariental. Descendants of the Schamne family in Graf moved to Herzog.

Over the years, this family adopted a German spelling of Schamne.

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Chaminé came from the German region of Trier.
