Schatz (Lauwe)*

Michael Schatz, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Johanna, age 4; Johann, age 9-weeks) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Heinrich Sager.

Michael Schatz, his wife Elisabeth, and daughter Anna (age 5) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Michael's wife died, and he remarried to the widow of Bernhard Göhringer. The combined Schatz and Göhringer [mis-translated as Kerner in some publications] families settled in the Volga German colony of Lauwe on 5 September 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 21.

The 1767 census records that Michael Schatz came from the German village of Oberalterheim.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
