Johann Stephan Schilling, a weaver (Weber), and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the Danish galliot Nord Stern under the command of Skipper Detlev Belling.
Johann Steffen Schilling, his wife Barbara Elisabeth, and son Johann Steffan (age 18½) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Jost and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 59.
The 1767 census records that Johann Stephan Schilling came from the German village of Suhl near Wittenberg in the Thüringen region.
