Discussion & Documentation

An article by Wilhelm Funk records the following going to Russia:

Heinrich Schindler, pastry maker (Conditor), son of the deceased Joh Schindler, pastry maker (Conditor) in Leipzig, and Marg. Dobler, widow of Joh. Gg. Dobler, hussar (Hussar) in the Royal regiment of Prussian General von Ziethen, both Lutheran, were married on 7 May 1766 in the Lutheran Chyurch in Wöhrd.

Heinrich Schindler, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Magdalena arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Die Wachsamkeit under the command of Skipper Jacob Heinrich Sager.

Henrich Schindler and his wife Maria Magdalena are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Lauwe on 5 September 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 24.

The 1767 census records that Heinrich Schindler came from the German town of Leipzig in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
