Gottl. Schlægel & Cunigunda Walther were married on 15 July 1766 in the Lutheran Cathedral (Evangelische Kirche Dom) in Lübeck.

Gottlieb Schlegel and his wife Kunigunda arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Gottlieb Schlagell and his wife Cunigunda are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They are recorded on a list of Beauregard recruits that was included with the 1767 census (#131). They settled in the Volga German colony of Biberstein where they are recorded on the 1798 census in Household No. Bb44.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Gottlieb Schlegel was a weaver while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.

The 1767 census records that Gottlieb Schlegel came from the German village of Mülsen in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
