Jakob Schmall, a farmer, and his wife Anna Elisabeth arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 April 1766 aboard a two-masted merchant ship named Der Kleine Andreas (The Little Andrew) under the command of Skipper Jacob Jensen.
Jakob Schmall, a farmer, settled in the Volga German colony of Messer on 15 November 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census along with his [new] wife Katharina. There is also a note on the 1767 census that he has taken over the debts of colonist Gottlieb Standauer who died in Saratov.
