Discussion & Documentation:

Georg Paulus Schmidt & Cungunda Koller were married on 19 June 1766 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lübeck. It is believed that this is the same Paul Schmidt who is later recorded in the colony of Biberstein.

Paulus Schmid and his wife Cunigunda arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Paul Schmidt, a single baker (Bäcker), is recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 130.

He and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Biberstein in Household No. Bb42 along with a note that his son Wilhelm is working in Basel.

The 1767 census records that Paul Schmidt came from the German village of Lerort [?].
