Samuel Schmidt, a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 July 1766 aboard the Apollo under the command of Skipper Friedrich Detloff Mörenberg.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 85.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Samuel Schmidt was a farmer. The 1767 census records that he was a craftsman (Handwerker).

Samuel Schmidt and his wife Anna Margaretha are recorded on the 1775 census of Grimm in Household No. 162.

Samuel Schmidt and his family (children: Johann Philipp, age 20; Johann Konrad, age 7, Anna Margaretha, age 5) are recorded on the 1798 census of Grimm in Household No. Gm038.

The death of Philipp Schmidt in 1830 is recorded on the 1834 census of Grimm in Household No. 37 along with his family (children: Philipp Jakob, age 21; Georg Heinrich, age 16; Sophia Katharina, age 12).

Philipp Jakob Schmidt and his brother Georg Heinrich Schmidt and their families are recorded on the 1857 census of Grimm in Household No. 39.

Johann Konrad Schmidt and his family (Johann Heinrich, age 18; Georg Jakob, age 12) are recorded on the 1834 census of Grimm in Household No. 119.

[Johann] Heinrich Schmidt and his brother Georg Jakob Schmidt and their families are recorded on the 1857 census of Grimm in Household No. 137.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Samuel Schmidt came from the German region of Darmstadt.
