Michael Schmidt, his wife Dorothea, and children (Margaretha Barbara, age 6; Johann Georg, age 4; Johannes, age 3) immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) arriving in the city of Schleswig on 4 July 1761.

They were dismissed from the Danish colonies on 1 May 1765 and joined the migration to Russia.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm and are recorded there on the 1775 census in Household No. 36.

The Eichhorns record that Michael Schmidt came from the German region of Baden-Durlach.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
