Schmidt (Lauwe-1)*
Johann Schmidt, his wife Christina, and daughter Barbara (age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Heinrich Sager.
Johannes Schmidt, his wife Christina, and daughter Barbara (age 4) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that daughter Barbara died en route.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Lauwe on 5 September 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 25.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Schmidt was a farmer from Inrand? while the 1767 census records that he was a hosier (Strumpfwirker) from the village of Sleigouim? in France.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
