Johann Schmidt, a locksmith, and his wife Barbara arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Johannes Schmidt, his wife Barbara, and newborn daughter Anna are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Johann Schmidt, a locksmith (Schlosser), his wife Barbara, and daughter Eva (age 1) are recorded on a list of Beauregard recruits appended to the 1767 census.

It is not known in which colony

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Schmidt came from the German region of Franken [Franconia]. The 1767 census records that he came from the German region of Bamberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
