Widower Hans Christoph Schmiese, a tailor (Schneider), and his children (Engel Sophia, age 15; Katharina Margaretha, age 13; Heinrich Christoph, age 10; Christian Friedrich, age 7) are recorded on the 1767 census of Holstein in Household No. 23. They had settled there on 26 May 1765.
In 1788, Christian Schmies moved from Holstein to Dreispitz.
The 1767 census records that Hans Christoph Schmiese came from the German village of Memmelsdorf in the Holstein region.
