History

After several years, the original Volga German villages of the General Alvear Colony became crowded, and there was not enough land to cultivate. Settlements began to sprout up in bordering areas.

General Racedo, like many other towns in Entre Ríos, does not have a specific founding date, but it was estalished on lands that were donated by the Racedo family next to the Central Entrerriano Railroad station which had been built in 1887.

A survey and a plan of the colony of General Racedo was approved by Governor Basavilbaso on 28 May 1888 and the rail station there was founded.

In 1888, General Racedo founded the estancia "El Carmen" a few kilometers away from Colonia General  Racedo.

General Racedo colonized his lands of the estancia "El Carmen" with tenant farmers, mostly Italian and Volga German immigrants and their descendants.

In 1864, the “estancia La Esperanza" was founded by Bernardino Etchevehere adjacent to the Colony and General Racedo Village and administered by his son. Part of the fields were leased to German settlers from the Wolga for the cultivation of cereals and oilseeds after their arrival in Argentina.

In 1924, the "Cooperativa La Granjera", later owned by Americo Gareis, operated in the town.
