Discussion & Documentation:

Johann Martin Schuchmann, son of Johann Martin Schuchmann & Anna Fischer from Obernhausen, was born 15 November 1718 in Obernhausen and died in Reichelsheim on 29 July 1762. He married 25 February 1745 in Reichelsheim to Elisabetha Fischer, daughter of Johann Michael Fischer (10 December 1681 - 30 August 1749) & Elisabetha Vollrath (died 26 February 1738). Elisabetha had been born 19 March 1726 in Klein-Gumpen.

Johann Martin Schuchmann & Elisabetha Fischer had 6 children whose births are recorded in the parish register of Reichelsheim: (1) Georg Adam, born 13 February 1746, died 5 May 1749; (2) Anna Margaretha, born 15 September 1748, died 15 December 1748; (3) Margaretha Elisabetha, born 23 June 1751; (4) Johann Michael, born 20 March 1754; (5) Heinrich Ludwig, born 12 July 1759, died 16 August 1759; and (6) Anna Catharina, born 29 March 1761.

Elisabetha Fischer Schuchmann remarried 22 May 1764 in Reichelsheim to Johann Peter Heist, son of Johann Henrich Heist (4 December 1686 - 28 February 1743) & Anna Catharina Dietmann (28 November 1688 - 14 March 1724). He has been previously married to Anna Elisabetha Dyroff (who died 22 September 1763 in Reichelsheim) and they had a number of children.

The combined Heist/Schuchmann family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dobrinka on 20 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 64.

The 1767 census records that Johann Peter Heist came from the German village of Rigelsen [Reichelsheim] in the region of Erbach.
