Peter Schuhmacher, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife Anna Maria settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 14 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 67.

In 1791, Johannes Schuhmacher moved from Mariental to Wittmann.

Schuhmacher descendants are recorded on the 1834 census of Wittmann in Households No. 21, 92, & 95.

The 1767 census records that Peter Schuhmacher came from the German district of Linne.
