Detlef Schung and his wife Anna Magdalena settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Tarlyk on 13 August 1767. He died 20 September 1767 and his widow remarried to Simon Hötsch. They are recorded on the 1767 census of Stahl am Tarlyk in Household No. 8.
The 1767 census does not record from where Detlef Schung came.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
