Discussion & Documentation

The parish register of Büdingen records the marriage on 1 July 1766 of Nicolaus Siebert from Somborn & Anna Maria Wilhelm from Hesseldorff.

The birth of Nicolaus Sieberth, son of Johann Georg & Anna Maria Sieberth, is recorded in the parish register of Somborn on 14 March 1743.

[Anna Maria Wilhelm is from Hesseldorf. The inhabitants of Hesseldorf were mostly Protestant; the Catholics belonged to the parish in Aufenau. The parish register of Aufenau doesn't begin until 1754. There are not any Wilhelms in the registers of Aufenau or nearby Bad Orb before 1754.]

Nikolaus Siebert, a farmer, and his wife Anna Maria arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Die Wachsamkeit under the command of Skipper Jacob Heinrich Sager.

Nicolaus Siebert and his wife Anna Maria are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Semenovka on 24 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 39.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Nikolaus Siebert came from the German region of Hanau.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Siebert family among the Volga German colonies.
