Friedrich Stahlmann, a farmer, and his wife Helena arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 3 June 1766 aboard the galliot Adler under the command of Skipper Paul Adolph Drath.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 12 May 1767. Friedrich is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 7 along with his new wife, Maria Appel and her daughter Anna (age 15).

The 1767 census records that Friedrich Stahlmann came from the German village of Glückstadt in the Holstein area.
