Two Steinbach families arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a pinque named Каргополь (Kargopol: a Russian City) under the command of Captain Lieutenant Moses Davydov. They are presumed to be mother and son, but further research is needed to confirm this relationship.
(1) Widow Margaretha Steinbach and her son Ferdinand (age 13) arrived in Oranienbaum.
It is not known what happened to them following arrival in Russia.
(2) Joseph Steinbach, a saddle maker (Sattler), and his wife Anna Maria Walter arrived in Oranienbaum.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Köhler on 21 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 79.
The widow and children of Joseph Steinbach [under surname Steinbein (sic)] are recorded on the 1798 census of Köhler in Household No. Kl04.
Wilbad Steinbach and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Köhler in Household No. 97.
The death of Wilbad Steinbach in 1836 is recorded on the 1850 census of Köhler in Household No. 143.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that both Steinbach families came from the German region of Fulda. The 1767 census records that Joseph Steinbach came from the German region of Fulda.
