Discussion & Documentation:

Michael Stenzel and his family (including stepson Philipp - surname not recorded) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 July 1766 aboard a Russian packet-boat named Svyataya Ekaterina (St. Catherine) under the command of Midshipman Alexander Trusov.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dietel on 1 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 4.

In 1789, widow Katharina Stenzel and her family moved from Dietel to Holstein.

The 1767 census records that Michael Stenzel came from the German village of Westhoffen in the Alsace region.

There do not appear to be any surviving male descendants of this Stenzel family.
