The Rev. Christian August Tornau was a Lutheran pastor who served the congregations in Grimm from 1767-1780 and in Bettinger from 1780-1791. He was born 24 March 1736 in Lanzig near Rügenwalde.
Parish registers in Sarepta record that Johann Kaspar August Tornau, son of Pastor Christian August Tornau, was born on 11 July 1774 in Grimm and that the family had relocated to Sarepta on 24 January 1789 from Bettinger.
