Ernst Trey, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and daughter Eleonora (age 5) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kutter in Household No. 84. They had settled there on 16 August 1767.

The 1767 census records that Ernst Trey came from the German region of Isenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
