Andreas Urban, a stocking weaver and son of Hans Georg Urban (born 1650 in Mertzwiller) & Anna Maria Schmidt, was born in Mertzwiller on 19 February 1695. He married Anna Maria Reiss who had been born on 14 August 1712 in Pfaffenhofen. She died on 12 October 1781 in Mertzwiller.
They have the following children: (1) Anna Barbara; (2) Julianna, born 6 August 1735 in Pfaffenhofen, died in November 1735 in Pfaffenhofen; (3) Johann Andreas, born 5 December 1736 in Pfaffenhoffen; (4) Maria Magdalena, born 5 May 1745 in Mertzwiller; and (5) Susanna Dorothea, born 16 February 1748 in Mertzwiller.
Son [Johann] Andreas Urban, a farmer, and his wife Agnes arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a Russian packet-boat named Severnyi Orel (Northern Eagle) under the command of Lieutenant Pyotr Malenkov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dietel on 1 July 1767, and he is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 37 along with his new wife Regina Friederika, the widow of Ludwig Stieber.
The 1767 census records that Andreas Urban came from the German village of Merzwald [Mertzwiller] in the Alsace region.
