Martin Vogel, a soldier (Soldat), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Graf on 10 June 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 23 along with his wife Maria Viktoria, and son Joseph (age ½).
The 1767 census records that Martin Vogel came from the German village of Mannheim in the Kurpfalz region.
