Johann Wolter [sic], a single chimney sweep (Schornsteinfeger), arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov.
Johann Samuel Walter, a single chimney sweep (Schornsteinfeger), arrived in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 12 May 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 56 along with a note that he was working as a day-laborer (Lohnarbeiter) in the household of Friedrich Lippmann.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Wolter came from the German region of Welpfalz [?]. The 1767 census records that Johann Samuel Walter came from the German village of Weisel [?] in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
There are no known surviving male lines of this Walter family among the Volga German colonies.
