Discussion & Documentation

Christian Wandel, a potter, and his wife Dorothea arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.

Christian Wandel and his wife Maria are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Christian died in route.

It is not known in which colony the Widow Maria Wandel settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Christian Wandel came from the German region of Dessau.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Wandel family among the Volga German colonies.
