Jakob Will, a farmer, and his wife Katharina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Laub on 12 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 29.
In 1790, Jakob Will and his family moved from Laub to Preuss.
Later documents record this surname as Wild and Wilt.
