Discussion & Documentation

There are two Will families from the German village of Lindheim that settled in the Volga German colonies. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Johann Ulrich Will, son of Conrad Will, married in Lindheim on 24 August 1726 to Maria Elisabeth Reuneck, daughter of Johannes Reuneck. She had been born in Lindheim on 25 March 1704.

The baptism of a daughter (Anna Margaretha) of Johann Ulrich Will & Maria Elisabeth Reuneck is recorded in the parish register of Lindheim on 22 August 1738.

Johann Ulrich Will, a carpenter, his wife Maria Elisabeth, their daughter Anna Margaretha, and son-in-law Johann Weil Becker arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the galliot Die Fortuna under the command of Skipper Peter Stahl.

Maria Elisabeth Will née Reuneck, widow of Ulrich Will, is recorded on the 1767 census of Balzer in Household No. 69 along with her daughter Anna Margaretha and her husband Johann Weil Becker.

Margaretha Becker née Will, widow of Weil Becker, and their daughter are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz005.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Will family family among the Volga German colonies.

(2) Johann Will, a carpenter, his wife Anna Katharina, and their children (Maria Elisabeth, age 16; Margaretha, age 11; Johann, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the galliot Die Fortuna under the command of Skipper Peter Stahl.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Beideck and are recorded there on the 1775 census in Household No. 13.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Will came from the German region of Linden [Lindheim].
