Hans Witt, a single day laborer (Tagelöhner), immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein).
On 29 July 1762, he is recorded in the Danish colony of Friderichsgraben, but did not begin work there. He joined the migration to Russia.
It is believed that this is the same Johann Witt who settled in the Volga German colony of Bauer on 20 July 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 14 with a note that he is living with colonist Johannes Bäcker [Household No. 34].
Gottfried Witt, son of Johann Witt, is recorded on the 1798 census of Bauer in Household No. Br43.
The death of Gottfried Witt in 1817 is recorded on the 1834 census of Bauer in Household No. 133.
The 1767 census records that Johann Witt came from the German town of Kiel in the Holstein region. The Eichhorns record that he came from the German village of Hennstedt in Norderdithmarschen.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Witt family among the Volga German colonies.
