Discussion & Documentation

Johann[es] Wunderlich, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Maria, age 15; Anna, age 9; Johann, age 8) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Frau Catharina under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Jenßen.

Johann Wunderlich, his wife Barbara, and children (Maria, age 16; Anna Maria, age 9; Johan Adam, age 8) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that wife Barbara died en route.

They are recorded on a list of Beauregard recruits that is attached to the 1767 census in Household No. 127.

In 1786, Adam Wunderlich moved from Nieder-Monjou to the Caucasus.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Wunderlich came from the German region of Nassau. The 1767 census records that Johannes Wunderlich came from the German village of Haigerseelbach [?] in the Nassau region.

[Daughter Anna Maria Wunderlich (age 19) is recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 70 as the wife of Anton Krämer. There she is recorded as having been born in the German village of Grosshausen in the Hanau region.]
