Discussion & Documentation

Marcel Würtz, a single linen weaver (Leineweber), arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 April 1766 aboard a two-masted merchant ship named Der Kleine Andreas (The Little Andrew) under the command of Skipper Jacob Jensen.

Marcel Würtz is recorded on the 1775 census of the Volga German colony of Schilling in Household No. 80 along with his wife Susanna, stepson Johannes Winter, and mother-in-law Margaretha (surname not recorded). [See Winter Family.]

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Marcel Würtz came from the German region of Württemberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Würtz family among the Volga German colonies.
