Ziegler (Dobrinka)

Johann Georg Ziegler was born in 1732 in Spöck, just a few kilometers north-northeast of Karlsruhe, in the modern state of Baden Württemberg.

He married on 14 March 1755 in the Evangelical [Lutheran] Church in Graben (the next village to the north of Spöck) to Maria Elisabetha Wenz, daughter of Christoph Wenz & Anna Katharina Kleen. The bride had been born and baptized on 9 July 1729 in Graben. [See Wentz Family.]

They had four children, each born and baptized in Graben: (1) Christoph, born 27 May 1755; baptized 27 May 1755; (2) Elisabetha, baptized 5 August 1756; (3) Johann Georg, born 31 August 1758; baptized 2 September 1758; and (4) Christina Katharina, born 27 May 1760; baptized 29 May 1760.

The Ziegler family immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein), departing from Altona, Duchy of Holstein, on 29 June 1761 under the leadership of Johann Thomas Gabler. They arrived in the city of Schleswig, Duchy of Schleswig, on 4 July 1761. Johann Georg Ziegler died in Rendsburg 5 October 1761. His widow, Maria Elisabetha née Wentz, remarried in December 1761 to Georg Michael Keller. [See Keller Family.]

The combined Keller/Ziegler family are recorded in Denmark until 13 June 1763. They immigrated to Russia, arriving in the Volga German colony of Dobrinka on 15 April 1765. Georg Michael Keller is recorded on the 1767 census of Dobrinka in Household No. 22 along with his Ziegler stepchildren (Christoph, age 13; Georg, age 9; Christina, age 7).
