Ruhental, Stavropol Krai (North Caucasus)

Ruhental was founded in 1866 by German settlers relocating from the colony of Riebensdorf (which had been settled at the same time as the Volga German colonies). Volga German colonists also settled there. Ruhental's Russian name was Radkovka.

The colony of Peterstal was founded in 1903 just south of Ruhental.

Today, Ruhental (Radkovka) has been administratively merged with neighboring Peterstal and is called Selivanovka.

Tallinn, Estonia (post-1800)

From the 13th century until 1918 (and briefly during the Nazi occupation of Estonia from 1941 to 1944), the city was known as Reval [Rewal in German]. Reval is located in the historical German region of Estland. Today, it is called Tallinn and is located in Estonia.

Over the years, Volga German companies had business interests in Reval. Volga German families also sent their children to Reval for higher education.

Schreiner, Bob

Wayne Robert "Bob" Schreiner, son of Gerard Joseph Schreiner & Marjorie Eleanor Matson, was born 25 December 1938 in Hays, Kansas.

Bob Schreiber spent his career in the Central Inteligence Agency (CIA) working for the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) [today the Open Source Center]. He served overseas in Austria, England, and Thailand. He served as director of the FBIS from 1990-1996.
