Shchuchinsk, Burabay District, Akmola Region, Kazakhstan

Shchuchinsk (Schutschinsk or Schtschutschinsk in German) was first settled in 1850 by Cossacks from Siberia. In the early 1900s, it served as a support center for the coal mining region of Karaganda.

Following the 1941 deportation, the city grew with many Volga German families being settled there (along with ethnic Germans from other areas of Russia). Beginning in 1990, most of these family migrated to Germany.
