Ardoano*

Michael Ardoano was born about 1780 in the Italian town of Asti.

He served as a soldier in the 25th Infantry Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against the Russians and was captured.

Milovidov records that as of 1814 his brother and sister were still living in Asti.

Belousov records that he was settled in the Volga German colony of Dobrinka and then moved to Semenovka.

Belousov records that Michael Ardoano came from Italy. Milovidov records that he came from the town of Asti in the [Italian] province of Piedmont.

It is located in the historical region known as Alsace-Lorraine which has belonged to both France and Germany through the centuries.

Heckel (Schäfer)*

Johannes Heckel was born about 1790 in the village of Sundhausen in the region of Alsace.

He was a soldier in the 8th Hussar Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against the Russians and was captured.

Milovidov records that as of 1814 he had three brothers still living in the village of Sundhausen.

He was settled in the Volga German colony of Schäfer and was assigned to the household of August Schmidt.

Milovidov records that Johannes Heckel came from the German village of Sundhausen in the region of Alsace.

Frankfurt am Oder (Stadt), Brandenburg

This city of Frankfurt is located on the banks of the Oder River [as opposed to the Frankfurt that is located on the banks of the Main River]. It is located in what used to be part of the German Kingdom of Prussia.

In Volga German history, the city of Frankfurt am Oder was the location of refugee camps for those escaping the 1921 Russian famine.

Ensisheim is situated in the historically German region of Alsace that is currently located in France.
